Lee Brand, District 6
Welcome to the District 6 website. District 6 encompasses Northeast Fresno (see district map). It is my privilege to serve you. All City Council Members are elected by district but we serve the entire City of Fresno.
I have lived in District 6 for 20 years and I have lived in Fresno for over 50 years. Over the past 50 years, Fresno has grown from a small town to a major metropolitan city. Becoming a large metropolitan city has created challenges that continue to this day. My goal is to make Fresno a better place to live and raise our children.
As your respresentative, my priorities are as follows:
- Respond to the needs of the residents of District 6;
- Keep our streets safe through support of public safety services;
- Maintain a balanced budget and carefully scrutinize all city operations to insure that our tax dollars are spent wisely while maintaining delivery of vital city services;
- Improve economic development and reduce the chronic unemployment in our city through better coordination of agencies; partnering with the Regional Jobs Initiative and private sector; and using a combined strategy of promoting and supporting growth of home grown business (Central Valley Incubator) and marketing for outside business to our area;
- Follow the guidelines of the 2025 General Plan to implement smart growth policies that include high density, mixed use projects and promote infill. The passage of SB375 will provide the incentives for more developments in our urban core;
- Promote and encourage the development of improved public transportation including Bus Rapid Transit to reduce traffic congestion, improve our air quality, and provide a cost efficient alternative to automobiles;
- Follow, enforce and expand our Fresno Green initiative policies;
- Revitalize our downtown core with a market driven strategy that promotes development of both small and large projects; addresses the infrastructure requirements; preserves the historic integrity of the area; and wisely spends tax payer dollars;
- Aggressively work for consolidation of public safety between the City and the County to improve delivery of services in a more cost efficient manner;
- Improve relations between the City and County to eliminate redundant services; promote better land use planning; and improve delivery of services;
- Support Fresno Unified School District through joint meetings of the school board and city council; after school programs run by the city recreation department; on campus police support; and engagement of the private sector for student mentoring and support; and
- In coordination with the county and other agencies, develop a comprehensive plan to resolve our homeless problem.
