Fresno, CA (March 24, 2009) On March 24th, 2009 Councilmember Henry T. Perea was named a Climate Super Hero by the California Student Interest Research Group. Student members of CALPRIG are spending their spring break touring California to raise public awareness of global warming. Along the way they will be recognizing Climate Heroes who have shown leadership on environmental issues. Perea has consistently made environmental issues a top priority in his tenure as Councilmember supporting such causes as The Healthy Air Walk and Bike Week, serving on the San Joaquin Valley Air Resources Board and proposing innovative legislation in support of solar power and green building in the City of Fresno.
Senate Pro Tem Darrell Steinberg, Gov. Schwarzenegger and Air Resources Board Chair Mary Nichols have all been recognized for their efforts to stop global warming. Councilmember Perea is honored to be chosen along with this group to be recognized for his efforts to make Fresno and California a healthier and more environmentally friendly place.
For 25 years CALPRIG has helped students learn to organize and implement solutions to problems facing them. Students learn to identify problems, come up with practical solutions, involve decision makers and contact media to spread their message to a larger audience. The skills they learn as CALPRIG members help train them to become the future leaders and innovators of California.
